I think we live in a society with a massive stigma around doing things to take care of ourselves, and I wanted to write about how important self-care is to our mental health and general wellbeing. Self-care is the difference between being your best self and being what’s left when you don’t look after yourself.
Recently my wife and I went on holiday without our twins (who are 4) and there were a few comments made to me about this, and my answer to those comments, was that to be the best parent I can be, I need some time to reconnect with myself, and to be the best parents we can be, we need time to re-connect with each other.
So find your thing, find things that bring you joy, help you relax and carve out some time for them, and feel happy that you are, because self-care is not selfish, it’s not indulgent, it’s vital.
